It’s a common adage that 95% of people give up right before success. But have you ever wondered why? When I first heard this statistic, I was sceptical. Why would anyone give up when they’re on the brink of success? And how could anyone predict if someone would give up or not?

These questions nagged at me until I experienced it first-hand. Let me share my story with you, and perhaps you’ll find some answers too.

During our vacation in Sardinia, my husband and I embarked on an unforgettable adventure: trekking through the breath taking mountains of Baunei. As we ventured along the rugged trails, surrounded by the awe-inspiring beauty of nature, the allure of the region captivated us.

One particular highlight of our journey was discovering the hidden gem known as Cala Goloritzè. Nestled amidst towering limestone cliffs, this pristine beach is renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and pristine white sands. It felt like stumbling upon a secluded paradise, a well-kept secret tucked away in the heart of Sardinia.

Navigating the path to Cala Goloritzè was no small task. The journey tested our endurance with winding paths and rocky terrain, each step a challenge in itself. Despite my initial reluctance for trekking, we pressed on, fuelled by the promise of adventure.

But as we made our way back from Cala Goloritzè, exhaustion began to take its toll. With each weary step, the weight of fatigue settled upon my shoulders, threatening to halt our progress. Finally, unable to continue, I sank to the ground, overwhelmed by frustration. I lamented to my husband that the journey seemed endless, with no respite in sight.

In that moment of defeat, a couple passed us effortlessly, moving with the grace and ease of seasoned hikers. They appeared to be in their seventies, yet their energy and agility put us to shame. Caught in a mix of embarrassment and admiration, my husband and I exchanged glances, silently acknowledging the stark contrast between our own fatigue and their vitality.

Their passing served as a wake-up call—a reminder that age was no barrier to adventure, and that perseverance could overcome even the most daunting challenges. With renewed determination, I rose to my feet, fueled by a newfound sense of purpose. Little did I know, just a mere 150 meters away lay the parking lot, hidden from view by the hill we had traversed.

It was a lesson learned amidst the rugged beauty of Sardinia—a reminder that sometimes, the greatest victories come when we refuse to give up, even in the face of adversity. A nameless couple, yet their presence became a symbol of resilience and vitality. And as we drove away from Baunei, I carried with me not only memories of stunning landscapes but also a newfound appreciation for the strength that lies within us all.

From that day forward, whenever thoughts of doubt or the urge to give up creep into my mind, I simply remind myself of Cala Goloritzè, as a a reminder that success is often just around the corner, waiting to be discovered.
